Beskrivelse

It began as an art project for Daniel Østvold. However, while he was working on a series of sculptures and paintings with Adam and Eve as the theme, he also got an idea that this could become a comic.

“ADAM & EVE” begins as an illustrated Bible story, as everyone knows it. At the dawn of time, God creates the very first couple, the serpent tricks Eve into eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which results in the two being thrown out of the Garden of Eden. While the Book of Genesis may present impressive genealogies, stories of a certain fratricide and a floating zoo, we do not get a precise description of what happens immediately after the expulsion.

With this comic, Daniel Østvold fills this gap in biblical history.
We follow the first humans through day-long marches along rivers referred to in the Bible. We learn about the reasons for the world’s first strained relationships. The world’s first pet, the peacock Pål, is also on the trip, for no other reason than that it represents paradise, which is irrevocably lost with God’s abrupt expulsion order.

Gradually, the biblical story is supplemented with elements of the doctrine of evolution and the Japanese Shinto tradition. In this connection, three monkeys with no significant impulse control appear, and an extremely obliging dragon. A couple of meteorite-created holes in the earth also appear in guest roles in the story. Without revealing too much of the plot, the final sequence offers a surprising reunion.

The work process with the sculptures and paintings is therefore included as short contemporary elements in the comic, which also ends as a kind of art exhibition to illustrate how the project began.

«ADAM & EVE» is also available in a Norwegian edition.
